Caribbean Squash Championships 2003
From August 20th-31st, 2003, top players from throughout the Caribbean will converge on Barbados to do battle and decide who is the top individual Squash Player, followed by a fiercely contested team event to determine which Caribbean country is the best in the region! Barbados is the defending champion, our players plan on keeping it this way! ![]()
TOURNAMENT HEADLINES
Results for both the Individual and Team competitions. The team competition of the 14th Mount Gay CASA Squash Championships continued today (Saturday) at the Barbados Squash Club’s, Marine House courts. Results for the morning session on Day 9 are as follows (N.B. Order of play today is 3, 4, 1, 5, 2) The Barbados Ladies Squash team continued in their quest for glory at the 14th Mount Gay CASA championships. Barbados defeated Guyana 4-1 in yesterday’s tie and will meet main rivals Jamaica on Saturday. Jamaica, led by Caribbean Squash Queen, Marlene West, will be aiming to take back the title that Barbados snatched from them in 2001 in the Bahamas. The Jamaicans fresh out of the Panam Games and with a CAC Silver medal from El Salvador in 2002 will present Barbados with their biggest challenge of the tournament. Barbados made a valiant effort against the higher ranked Guyana team yesterday when the team competition of the 14th Mount Gay Caribbean Squash Championships continued. The Barbados Ladies and Vets team were in fine form last night as the team competition of the 14th Mount Gay CASA Squash Championships continued at the Barbados Squash Club. The Ladies team completed a straight win victory over Trinidad winning all five matches in the event. The Ladies team will now face Guyana, which is expected to be a greater challenge, but they are well prepared and playing well. The Men’s team will also face Guyana in an important match. The Men are assured a semi final berth but a victory against Guyana would mean they would not face the top-ranked Bermuda team in the semis. Barbados were victorious in their first team tie against the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) when the team competition began Monday night in the 14th Mount Gay CASA tournament at the Barbados Squash Club. The tie produced a close finish with Barbados edging out OECS 3-2. Matches continue to Saturday August 30th Marlene West of Jamaica stamped her authority on regional squash when she powered by Nicolette Fernandes of Guyana in the finals of the Ladies Individuals at the 14th Mount Gay Caribbean squash tournament. The three time champion added a fourth to her list and left spectators in awe. Marlene West of Jamaica dashed Barbados’ hopes of an individual Caribbean title when she Cruised past Karen Meakins in three straight games. The 14th Mount Gay CASA Squash Championships gained momentum Friday night when the quarter finals of the Mens / Ladies Individuals were contested at the Barbados Squash Club courts. Action began to heat up in the Individual Competition of the Mount Gay Caribbean Area Squash Championships on Friday at the Barbados Squash Club. The 14th Mount Gay CASA Squash Championships opened this morning at the Barbados Squash Club’s, Marine House courts, with the start of the individual competitions for both men and women. The 14th Mount Gay Caribbean Area Squash Association Championships commences Thursday at the Barbados Squash Club in Hastings. This is the premier squash event in the Caribbean and the top names in regional squash will be in action over the ten day tournament. The Barbados Squash Rackets Association (BSRA) invites members of the Caribbean Area Squash Association to confirm their participation in the 14th Mount Gay CASA Squash Championships which are scheduled to be held in Barbados from August 20 -31, 2003 (travel dates).
