Barbados National Championships 2006... The National Championships consists of 3 separate divisional tournaments - Juniors (under 19 years old), Veterans (over 35 years old) and Open category.
The Sagicor General Junior National Championships covers boys and girls age groups of Under-11, U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19. The Men's Veterans' events include Over-35, +40, +45, +50 and +55, while the Ladies will contest the Over-45 and +50 age groups. The Open category is where the best players on the island slug it out to see who will have the honour of being crowned "Barbados National Champion for 2006". Karen Meakins won a record sixth straight national squash title as expected on May 20th. Shawn Simpson won his third successive national title to equal the record set by Rudy Goodridge and Mark Sealy. The top two men’s seeds emulated their female counterparts by booking their places in the men’s final of the 32nd edition of the annual Barbados National Squash Championships. Karen Meakins will face Sonia Perkins in Saturday's National Ladies Squash Final for the fifth successive year! The top five men’s seeds all progressed with a minimum of fuss to Thursday’s quarter-finals when the National Squash Championships continued on May 17th at the Barbados Squash Club. The top four ladies seeds all progressed smoothly to Thursday’s semi-finals in the Barbados National Squash Championships. The 32nd edition of the Barbados National Squash Championships sponsored by the BOA got underway on Monday night, May 15th at the Barbados Squash Club. On the final day of the veteran’s competition in the Barbados National Squash Championships Nigel "Dragon" Griffith won his second age group title in as many days when he defeated John Cumberbatch in straight games. David Spink completed a successful tournament for himself by convincingly defeating Barry Gale in the over-50 final on an exciting night of squash at the Barbados Squash Club. Barry Gale swept into his first over-50 national final by outlasting the top seeded Orson Simpson on an exciting night of squash at the BSC. Frank Jordan overcame a two game deficit and fought back in impressive fashion to win his men's over 45 plate match on an otherwise tranquil night of squash. The veterans competition in the Barbados National Squash Championships which is sponsored by the Barbados Olympic Association got underway on Tuesday May 9th at the BSC. This weekend (April 7-9th) will see the 26th edition of the Sagicor General Junior National Squash Championships!
