SENIOR CASA IS UNDERWAY!!!

After an uneventful trip on Friday afternoon, six Barbadian men took to the court on Saturday morning in a quest to bring home an individual gold medal. The ladies will begin their campaign for Caribbean squash glory on Day 2 (Sunday) (see article on the right of this page).

CONGRATS KAREN!!!

Karen Meakins who won a silver medal at the 10th World Squash Federation Masters Squash Championships held from August 23-28, 2010 in Cologne, Germany place fouth in the same L+35 age group this time around when the 11th WSF World Masters Squash Championships were held in Birmingham, England in July 2012 just before the opening of London Olympic Games.

Karen also was the runner-up in the Ladies Individual title at last years 19th Caribbean Area Squash Association's Senior Caribbean Squash Championships held in the Cayman Islands and anchored the Ladies Team to a gold medal in the Team Championships. The Barbados Veterans team also finished first with Jamaica placing second. The Men's Team once again finished fourth behind champions, the O.E.C.S. Cayman and Jamaica, but those results were enough for Barbados to clinch the Caribbean Overall Team title for the fourth time in the last six completed championships and for the fifth time overall.

Karen also reached the finals in the Ladies Individuals at the 21st Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Bogota, Colombia, in 2010 winning Barbados' first silver medal in squash. She also anchored the ladies team to a bronze medal in the Ladies Team event, repeating the success of the 2006 Ladies team at these CAC Games. Karen now has played a major part in winning four out of the five CAC Games medals (1 silver and 4 bronze) won in squash by Barbados over the past two CAC Games, and her own medal haul of four CAC Games medals (1 silver and 3 bronze) has only been bettered by two Barbadian athletes since Barbados first began to compete at this level in 1962!

The BSA once again invites its members and the wider squash playing public in Barbados to let us know what you think we should be doing more of by sending your comments / opinions / constructive criticism to us at squashbarbados@olympic.org.bb

Again, Welcome...

A warm welcome to all squash players (and non-players), and a special welcome to overseas visitors who are interested in the fabulous game of squash.

Of course, Barbados is known more for its perfect white beaches, crystal blue waters and everlasting sunshine than for squash, but it is here you'll find a committed and fun-loving bunch of squash enthusiasts who play hard and party equally hard.

Now if you don't know anything about squash, try to imagine two people chasing behind a little black rubber ball traveling at over 100 m.p.h. in a totally enclosed room. Players must be extremely fit, highly coordinated and able to react like a cat - it is indeed a "physical chess game" of sorts.

So, welcome to the official BSRA Website. Hopefully it will get updated more often than you visit. :) But either way, please enjoy!

Photo Invitation...

If you have any squash-related photos taken while in Barbados, please feel free to e-mail them to us (agill@sunbeach.net). If we publish them, we will give you full credit for the photo and buy you a beer. Promise!
